Over 1,000 Northern Groups Endorse Tinubu-Shettima for 2027, Hail ‘Most Dependable Leadership’ in 65 Years

A powerful coalition of over 1,000 organisations under the Northern Progressives Coalition (NPC) has thrown its full weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for re-election in 2027.

Meeting in Abuja on Thursday, the coalition—representing democratic forces from Nigeria’s 19 Northern states—praised the administration for what it called “a socio-political renaissance” that has placed the North at the heart of Nigeria’s development agenda.

NPC Convener, Usman Abdullahi, lauded Tinubu and Shettima as the most dependable leadership team since independence, crediting them with tackling decades of systemic neglect, political marginalisation, and economic exclusion in the region.

He pointed to unprecedented Northern representation in federal appointments, strategic infrastructure projects, and transformative education reforms, including:

  • Advanced oncology centre in Katsina under the national cancer care policy.

  • National Student Loan Scheme benefiting over 396,000 students—55% from the North.

  • Revitalisation of 101 Almajiri and Tsangaya schools in Bauchi, Niger, Kaduna, and Kano.

  • Solar-powered and water-enabled learning centres across Northern senatorial districts.

On infrastructure, Abdullahi cited the N740.79bn Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road, the 1,068km Sokoto-Badagry Highway, and dredging of the River Niger as game-changing projects backed by budgetary commitments.

The coalition also backed the removal of the fuel subsidy, tax reforms for agro-processors, and targeted empowerment programmes that have reached conflict-affected communities in Sokoto, Niger, Kebbi, Taraba, and Yobe.

Calling for continuity in 2027, Abdullahi warned against “political experimentation,” stressing that reforms like subsidy removal, naira floatation, and tax restructuring need multi-year stability to bear full fruit.

“The North is no longer at the margins but at the epicentre of governance,” he declared, urging governors, lawmakers, traditional rulers, and youth leaders to champion the Renewed Hope for Northern Renaissance agenda.
