As preparations reach their peak, the atmosphere across Delta State and beyond is filled with emotion and reflection as the Achi family and the entire Umusedeli community prepare to bid a grand farewell to Late Pa Odua (High Chief) Godwin Opute Achi — a man remembered not only as a father but as a pillar of truth, courage, and honour.

Born on 12th August 1939, Pa Achi lived a life of service, resilience, and leadership. From his modest beginnings in Effurun to his remarkable years as a businessman, community leader, and High Chief of Umusedeli in Ndokwa West, he touched countless lives and built a legacy grounded in discipline, honesty, and compassion.

Speaking through a phone chat with our correspondent, Mr Uzor Achi described the forthcoming funeral as “a celebration of an icon whose legacy cannot be denied.” He added, “On the 14th of November 2025, the world will not mourn but celebrate a man who lived fully and fearlessly.”

Mr Ifeanyi Achi, the first son and writer of Pa Achi’s biography, has been at the forefront of preparations, ensuring every detail of the ceremony reflects the pride and honour of his father’s name. The funeral  will take place on Friday, 14th November 2025, at the Achi Family Residence, No. 60 Ashaka Road, Kwale, Delta State.

In a deeply emotional reflection, Mr Barnabas Chukutem Achi said:

“We are gathered here today not just in sorrow but in admiration of a man who had as many haters as lovers — both of which, together, amount to admiration. The haters despised him not because he wronged them, but because he never backed down from what he believed in. Those who loved him did so because he stood by his truth, no matter the cost.”

He recalled a defining moment from his youth that shaped his understanding of manhood:

“I once saw my father appear in chains during a court proceeding, yet he remained unbroken. He told me, ‘A man fights hard and tough for what he believes in. You can’t kill a man and kill his mouth. The truth has never been known to kill any man — and even if it does, that would be an honourable death.’ Those words gave me courage — the kind of courage that defines real men.”

Adding his voice to the tributes, Mr Posh, widely known as Babawuri — a celebrity MC, politician, influencer, and event planner — described Pa Achi as “a father figure and an icon whose principles and humility still speak beyond his time.”

“Though this moment may be difficult for the family,” Babawuri said, “it is also a celebration of grace — a life well-lived in a world where true men of honour are rare. Papa lived long, lived right, and raised a family grounded in strong moral values.”

He added that the unity and character seen in the Achi family today are reflections of Papa’s guidance and influence.

“He empowered his children, instilled moral strength, and left behind a name that commands respect. Knowing this family has been a blessing, and I count it an honour to be associated with them.”

As the day draws near, friends, family, and well-wishers from across Nigeria prepare to gather — not in mourning, but in celebration of a man whose life continues to inspire courage, truth, and service.

Late Pa Odua (High Chief) Godwin Opute Achi will be remembered as a man who lived fearlessly, led with conviction, and left a legacy that will continue to guide generations to come.
