13th July 2025 | Abuja — In the wake of the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, tributes have continued to pour in from across Nigeria and beyond. One of the most heartfelt came from his successor and fellow former Head of State, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, who described Buhari’s death as “a profound national loss.”
In a statement released to the press, Dr. Jonathan expressed deep sorrow over the death of the 82-year-old elder statesman, who died earlier today in a London clinic.
“President Buhari was a notable leader, a patriot, and an elder statesman who served our beloved nation both as a military Head of State and as a civilian President — always to the best of his ability,” Jonathan said.
Reflecting on the legacy of his late colleague, Dr. Jonathan praised Buhari’s courage, discipline, and devotion to Nigeria, saying he would be remembered as “a selfless leader who served the country with character and a deep sense of patriotism.”
“He was deeply admired across the strata of society for his decency, integrity and exemplary life of service,”he added.
Dr. Jonathan also noted that Buhari’s contributions to peace and national stability left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s political history, stating that “his legacy will endure in the hearts of those who cherish sacrifice, integrity, perseverance and devotion to national ethos.”
Concluding his message, the former President extended condolences on behalf of his family and the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation to the Buhari family, the people of Katsina State, and the entire nation.
“May Allah forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds and grant him Jannatul Firdaus,” he prayed.
As the nation mourns, Buhari’s passing continues to evoke memories of a long life dedicated to duty, discipline, and national unity. Arewa News Flash will continue to provide updates and tributes in the coming days.
