“I Never Rejected Tinubu’s Appointment” — Babangida Clears the Air
Mohammed Babangida has firmly denied reports that he rejected his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA). A letter circulating online claimed he declined the role due to personal reasons — but Babangida calls it fake and forged.
“That letter is completely false. I didn’t write or sign it. I’m ready to work with President Tinubu to develop Nigeria’s agriculture,” he told BBC Hausa.
The Presidency also confirmed the letter was fraudulent, with media aides calling it a coordinated attempt to cause division. Babangida says legal action is underway against those behind the forgery.
Northern leaders have since welcomed the news, describing Babangida as a key figure in Nigeria’s agricultural revival. His appointment remains valid, and he is expected to assume office soon.
