FG Taps Barr. Ismaeel Ahmed to Drive Clean Energy Reform via PCNGi

In a bold step toward sustainable energy reform, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Barrister Ismaeel Ahmed as the Executive Chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi).

The initiative is a strategic component of the Tinubu administration’s broader palliative programme, aimed at cushioning the effects of fuel subsidy removal by promoting cheaper, cleaner, and more accessible energy alternatives across the country.

As Executive Chairman, Barr. Ahmed is tasked with steering the coordination and full implementation of the PCNGi—an ambitious plan to drive Nigeria's energy transition through the widespread adoption of compressed natural gas (CNG), especially within the transport and commercial sectors.

At 45, Ismaeel Ahmed brings deep experience in governance and public policy. He holds a law degree from the University of Abuja (2005) and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2006. He later earned a master’s degree in international relations, communications, and diplomacy from Webster University, St. Louis, Missouri, in 2008.

Ahmed is no stranger to public service. He served as the Senior Special Assistant to former President Muhammadu Buhari on the National Social Investment Programme from 2018 to 2022, where he played a leading role in youth development and social policy interventions.

With this new appointment, the presidency is signaling its commitment to smart energy solutions, strategic leadership, and long-term economic relief for Nigerians.
